The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 is a bill revising the 1955 Citizenship Act to provide a path to Indian citizenship to illegal migrants who are Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Parsis from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered into India on or before 31 December 2014. It also attempts to relax the terms of residence in India for citizenship by adjustment from 11 years to 5 years for all these migrants. The instant beneficiaries of the Bill, as per IB records, it will be over 30,000 peoples.

On 4 December 2019, The Union Cabinet cleared the Bill. It was passed by the Lok Sabha on 10 December 2019, and consequently, in the Rajya Sabha on 11th December 2019. It came into effect from 12 December 2019.
